Rangers aim to seal Juninho Bacuna deal within hours

Steven Gerrard wants Rangers to wrap up a deal to sign Juninho Bacuna from Huddersfield within the next 24 hours, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported around 8am on Thursday that Gerrard is hopeful of concluding discussions by tomorrow (Friday) morning.

It is understood that Bacuna, 24, is the Gers manager’s top midfield target going into the final weeks of the summer transfer window with talks ongoing ahead of the Europa League clash with Alashkert.

The Scottish Sun adds: “Gers have been on the lookout for an attacking midfielder and Bacuna fits the bill.”

Clever deal – or underwhelming?

As far is new faces have gone, this transfer window hasn’t blown the socks of the Ibrox faithful.

However, keeping hold of star players has been mightily impressive and that is far more important than bringing in new players.

Out of the new signings, none have really impressed us so far with John Lundstram especially struggling in his first few outings for the Scottish champions.

Will Bacuna do better? We hope so.

He’s not a signing that will raise the roof at Ibrox but he is a clever addition to the squad as he can play in a number of different positions and can provide much-needed cover.

Bacuna is primarily a central-midfielder who likes to get forward and contribute in the attack.

He can also play at right-back, on the right-wing and even as a centre-forward.

Bacuna only turned 24 earlier this month so he could still improve in the future and the Scottish Premiership may be the place for him to do that having already played in the English Premier League and Championship for Huddersfield.

We’re not over the moon with signing Bacuna but we can understand it.

In other Rangers news, another player has passed a medical ahead of joining the Gers.
