Mark Hateley slams Ryan Kent form at Rangers on BBC Radio Scotland

BBC Radio Scotland pundit Mark Hateley has been disappointed with Ryan Kent’s form at Rangers this season.

Kent, 24, has failed to score in his first four matches of the season but did get an assist in each of the Champions League qualifier legs against Malmo.

In the first half against Alashkert in the Europa League playoff on Thursday night at Ibrox, Kent hit the crossbar in the 22nd minute.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, as quoted on the BBC Sport website [8:07pm], Hateley called for a big performance from Kent because he’s not been pleased by his form so far this term.

“There’s creativity and goals in the frontline. Rangers just need a performance from Ryan Kent,” said Hateley.

“He’s been really disappointing from his numbers last season.”

Rangers

He’s not the only one

Hardly anyone has been good enough at the start of this season.

We’ve seen our unbeaten run in the league end and have been knocked out of the Champions League even though we had a golden opportunity against Malmo when they went down to 10 men.

Kent has underperformed massively but this isn’t really anything new for him – we know he can be very inconsistent.

Rangers

Kent shone at the start of last season, went quiet, picked up again later in the season and then had mixed performances for Steven Gerrard.

Our issue is the lack of a replacement.

If Alfredo Morelos is misfiring or James Tavernier’s form drops off a cliff, we can replace them in the starting line-up.

What do we do if Kent’s form drops or he gets injured? We’ve got very limited options on the left-wing.

Kent needs competition, he needs someone to drive him. Rangers need another winger before the transfer window closes.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have made a multi-million bid to sign “one of the best players” in a European league.
