Juan Alegria passes medical ahead of Rangers transfer

Colombian striker Juan Alegria has passed a medical ahead of a permanent switch from Finnish club Honka to Rangers, according to the Glasgow Times.

The newspaper reports that the 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal at Ibrox and underwent his medical checks today (Thursday).

It is understood that the deal is set to be announced in the coming hours and Alegria will go into Rangers’ B team for this season.

Rangers

Good summer?

We’re almost into the final third of August and we’re yet to see Steven Gerrard lose any of his top players and several new additions have been made to the squad.

Nnamdi Ofoborh, John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala were all added earlier in the summer and it seems as though Alegria is set to become the Gers’ fourth addition.

On top of that, Huddersfield midfielder Juninho Bacuna may also be heading to Ibrox with Sun journalist Alan Nixon reporting this week that a deal for the Dutch-born ace is at an “advanced” stage.

Rangers

Alegria is unlikely to be someone we’ll see much of in the first-team this season but he may get the odd bit of a game-time if there’s a cup match he can play in or a few injury issues.

However, we’re not as excited about this deal as we were when Alfredo Morelos swapped Finland for Scotland with Alegria not really getting much of a shot at Honka.

Alegria joined Honka in September 2020 and has played just 24 times in all competitions, scoring three goals in the process.

The young centre-forward netted two of those earlier this month in a league win over Ilves.

Alegria is young, will have a good mentor in Morelos and is unlikely to cost a lot of money so we are happy with this signing, we’re just not getting out of our seats to go crazy about it.

In other Rangers news, Gerrard has hinted this senior player could be loaned out.
