Alan Brazil mocks Rangers Champions League exit, Ally McCoist reacts

Alan Brazil was quick to issue a dig at Rangers’ Champions League demise after winding Ally McCoist up on talkSPORT.

Ranges lost 2-1 to Malmo at Ibrox last week, exiting UEFA’s premier club competition after a 4-2 loss on aggregate to the Swedish side.

They now drop down to the Europa League alongside bitter rivals Celtic, and Hoops-mad Brazil couldn’t resist mentioning it after returning to radio duties following a holiday in Marbella.

“I might go and watch the Rangers game tonight,” Rangers hero Ally McCoist said during Thursday’s Breakfast show [19/08/21].

Brazil replied: “Are they still in Europe?”

McCoist: “That’s a cheap shot. You’re back and you’re attacking me straight away.”

Brazil: “I joined the Marbella Malmo supporters club.”

McCoist: “That was a poor message you left that night by the way.”

Brazil: “Well, you’ve been giving me plenty lately.”

Desperate times

Celtic fans are now celebrating Rangers defeats that are over a week old.

Brazil was absent from radio duties last week when the Gers suffered crushing disappointment against Malmo, but he was quick to stick the boot in on his return to face McCoist on Thursday.

How apt it came after Celtic managed to win their first-leg qualifier on Wednesday. We’re not sure Brazil would have piped up if that result had not gone their way.

That’s where we have to take a bit of pride. After such a long period of dominance in Scottish football, Celtic and their fans have now taken to lauding our losses.

They are attempting to pile the pressure on Steven Gerrard and his side after last season’s invincible campaign, and the Light Blues must rise above it and focus on the task at hand.

A successive title win, domestic cup success and a lengthy run in the Europa League would still represent a good season for the Gers.

Let’s go for it.
