Rangers at advanced stage in bid to sign Huddersfield midfielder Juninho Bacuna
Rangers are at an “advanced” stage in their bid to sign Huddersfield midfielder Juninho Bacuna, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon.
On Tuesday night, the Scottish Sun reported that the Gers are “seriously considering a move” to sign the 24-year-old Curacao international after impressive scout reports were handed to Ross Wilson.
Last October, Nixon reported that Bacuna was a target back then and when asked if a deal for the Dutch-born ace is now a goer, he replied: “Yes. Advanced.”
We need this
Bacuna is someone who Rangers have done a year’s worth of homework on so you would hope that Wilson and Steven Gerrard are getting this one right.
The former Groningen midfielder, who joined Huddersfield in 2018 and has since played over 100 times for them in all competitions, is versatile and can play in a number of different roles.
Last season, he played more often than not in a central role but he’s quite attack-minded and was also used as a right-winger, attacking midfielder and a centre-forward in Huddersfield’s Championship campaign. Amazingly, he also played a right-back for the Yorkshire club [transfermarkt].

Bacuna is yet to play for Huddersfield this season as he’s in the final year of his contract at the John Smith’s Stadium. Manager Carlos Corberan has also confirmed in the last few weeks that Bacuna has received “different interesting offers from different clubs” [YorkshireLive].
Rangers have not started the season well and John Lundstram’s form has been disappointing.
Ryan Jack has also had continual injury issues over the past few seasons and remains sidelined so Bacuna will add some much needed depth in that area of the squad while also offering an alternative option out wide for Gerrard.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard hints this senior player could be sent out on loan this summer.
