Derek McInnes: Steven Gerrard will be disappointed with Rangers players

BBC pundit Derek McInnes has stated that Steven Gerrard is still searching for solutions as Rangers have suffered a poor start to the new season.

Before Rangers’ convincing 5-0 victory against Dunfermline on Friday, Gerrard’s men endured three straight defeats, two of which condemned them to a Champions League exit.

This resulted in the defending SPFL champions suffering a huge lack of financial windfall which is certainly going to impact their incomings and outgoings this summer.

BBC pundit McInnes, in his column for The Scottish Mail on Sunday, wrote, “I think Gerrard is searching at the minute. He’ll be more than a bit disappointed with certain players’ levels and dismayed at how they have come off last year’s levels.

“I can’t fathom the return of fans as a valid point for Rangers losing three games in a row.

“Only by winning and performing at their best in front of their supporters will they stop people pointing the finger.”

Need to go on a run

We’ve started the season on the worst possible note and it’s time for Gerrard to go back to the drawing board and be ruthless with some players as they most certainly deserve it.

Since the season began, we’ve had an air of complacency surrounding our play which has led to such abject displays on the field of play.

Also, with certain names linked with an exit, there’s still not that 100 per cent dedication to the cause one would expect at the start of the season as they could be planning their lives in a different country altogether.

It’s time we sort out their futures as soon as possible and keep the ones who want an exit away from the bunch of committed players as all does not seem well behind the scenes.

Given our players and the quality of the manager, we should be doing way better than we are currently and something needs to change very soon.
