Croatian defender Nikola Katic told to leave Rangers
Nikola Katic has been told to leave Rangers, and the Scottish champions plan to offload the centre-back before the end of the summer transfer window.
According to The Scottish Sun, Light Blues sporting director Ross Wilson has met with the agent of the 24-year-old Croatian and instructed him to find the defender a new club.
Katic spent the whole of last season on the injury sidelines and is now way down manager Steven Gerrard’s pecking order at Ibrox.
Blow?
Rangers are well-stocked at the back, with the quartet of Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson all ahead of the Croat, and with Champions League elimination resulting in a financial blow, it is only normal for the club to want to let go of some players.
Katic still has a year left on the four-year deal he signed when he joined us from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018, and hopefully, we can get something from a potential sale.
A contract extension has never been on the cards at anytime, and it is understandable if the Light Blues bosses want him out as soon as possible.
Katic has had to feature for the B team to attain fitness, playing in last week’s SPFL trophy win over Dumbarton.
Spending 12 months out after rupturing his ACL ligaments has surely been a huge blow to his Rangers career, and we have a feeling that we have seen his last first-team appearance.
It would be up to him and his agent to make a decision, and while Katic could be keen to stay at Ibrox and convince Gerrard, a lack of playing chances could make that tough, and it could be best if both parties part ways.
In other Rangers news, this is what Ibrox bosses have told Gerrard after £30m blow.
