Rangers bosses have told Steven Gerrard that he does not have to sell

Rangers bosses have told manager Steven Gerrard that he does not have to sell any player this summer, according to 90min.

The Scottish champions missed out on qualification for the group stages of the Champions League after losing to Malmo home and away in the third qualifying round.

Qualification would have generated an extra £30million to Rangers finances, but they have been dealt a massive blow.

The Light Blues are now bracing themselves for interest and possible bids for some of their most valuable players, but Gerrard will not be forced to sell.

Huge boost

The quintet of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Borna Barisic, Ianis Hagi and Glen Kamara all have clubs keen on them this summer, and losing one or two would be a big blow.

Ideally, Gerrard would love to hold on to everyone, and it appears his bosses have handed him a massive boost.

We cannot afford to lose key players with a title defence on the cards, and being able to retain them would be massive.

It is unknown whether suitors have tabled any bids for any of them of recent, but our elimination from the Champions League is definitely going to trigger that.

We now need to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, and navigating the play-offs against Armenian side Alashkert should not be an issue.

Rangers

Rangers cannot deny the fact that we remain a selling club, with most players seeing us as a stepping stone to a bigger club.

The big clubs could come calling in the coming days to test our resolve, and it will be interesting to see what happens if suitable offers are tabled.
