Ally McCoist thrilled by Calvin Bassey v Dunfermline

Rangers returned to their dominant ways on Friday as they smashed Dunfermline in the Premier Sports Cup.

It finished 5-0 at Ibrox, but it could easily have been double that with plenty of chances being created after a disappointing week.

Clavin Bassey was the star of the moment down the left, with the defender picking up a couple of assists in the opening half.

Ally McCoist even singled out Bassey as the top performer of the clash, and was in awe of what he was watching.

Speaking during live coverage on Premier Sports, McCoist was delighted with the quality of delivery on show.

“Bassey down the left-hand side,” he said.

“He’s put in three or four deliveries, I’m not kidding, they’ve been absolutely out of this world, the crosses he’s put into the box.”

Outcast no more.

It would be safe to say that Bassey became somewhat of an outcast in the squad after breaching COVID-19 rules last season.

The left-back was overlooked, despite Nathan Patterson doing the same thing and then bursting onto the scene.

That could have left Bassey downhearted, but instead, he has clearly used it as motivation to kick on, and last night he got his rewards.

What we loved most what how humble he was after the game, thanking Steven Gerrard and the staff for trusting him.

Borna Barisic hasn’t had the best of starts to this season, and although he isn’t under immediate threat, he will be looking over his shoulder.
