Rangers man Nikola Katic returns to the first-team squad

Rangers man Nikola Katic has been included in the squad for tonight’s game against Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup.

After suffering a horrendous injury, the Croatian has not played for the Gers since the 2019/20 season. However, he is back in the squad and could be involved, according to the Daily Record.

The 24-year-old was a key player for Rangers in both the 2018/19 season and 2019/20 season, but they didn’t miss him last year, and he could have a job forcing his way into the team.

Katic is back.

Steven Gerrard has revealed in the past that he loves the centre-back, and it is great to see him back for this game [STV].

However, it seems unlikely that he will be involved straight away after so long out, but it is great to see him back in the first-team squad.

The likes of Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun have not started the season that well, so if Katic can gain some match fitness, we wouldn’t be surprised if, at some point, Gerrard decides to throw him in an SPFL game.

Katic returning could also prove a boost for Goldson and Balogun, who now have someone else as well as Filip Helander pushing them for a starting spot.

Overall, it is great to see Katic back in the squad, but we would be surprised if he played any part tonight.

In other Rangers news, Kieran Maguire has offered a positive financial update for the Gers.
