Steven Gerrard confirms that Rangers will be without Fashion Sakala

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the Gers will be without striker Fashion Sakala for the visit of Dunfermline Athletic on Friday.

The 24-year-old has a “minor groin issue” and won’t be risked for the Scottish League Cup tie at Ibrox.

Despite that, Gerrard says that most of his squad is now getting up to speed with their fitness.

As quoted on Rangers’ official Twitter account, the manager said: “For different reasons during pre-season people have been missing but the squad is now starting to look healthy.

“Only Sakala has a minor groin issue that we will not risk tomorrow. “

A blow for the Gers?

Since Sakala arrived at Ibrox this summer, he has been restricted to 126 minutes and has failed to score or provide an assist.

However, against Malmo, he looked lively when he came off the bench, so this could be considered a blow to lose him for this League Cup match [Daily Record].

The striker has been described as “incredible” by Gerrard in the past, so he clearly has something about him, and it is a shame that Gers fans won’t be able to see him in action tomorrow night [BBC].

However, the problem doesn’t sound too bad, and hopefully, he is ready to play against Ross County in the SPFL next week.

Even without Sakala, though, Rangers should have more than enough to beat Dunfermline and get into the next round of the cup.

If they don’t, then serious questions could be asked.

In other Rangers news, Ross Wilson has been criticised in a new article.
