Darren Gough shocked by what Rangers fans think of Gerrard
Darren Gough is bemused by the reaction of some Rangers fans who were calling for Steven Gerrard to be sacked.
The defending Scottish champions suffered a 4-2 aggregate defeat to Malmo which ended their hopes of competing in the Champions League this season.
Discussing Rangers’ loss to Malmo on talkSPORT, Gough praised Gerrard and the Gers players for last season, but thinks that calls for him to be shown the door are a tad premature.
He said, “When you consider last year, such a great season for Gerrard. He was awesome. The Rangers players were excellent and everyone was talking about the demise of Celtic.
“Now, this season everyone thought it was going to be similar. Rangers, since that opening day victory, have gone ‘Defeat, defeat, defeat’ and I was amazed last night (Tuesday).
“I was driving back from Manchester and I cannot believe the calls that were coming in saying ‘Gerrard’s got to go’. One guy was in tears. He said they’ve bottled it, the players can’t play under pressure.”
Reactionary much?
It’s disappointing to see some Rangers fans being so fickle after three bad performances that they want the manager to be shown the door when clearly he’s not the one to be blamed for these losses.

He did everything he could, but the manner we folded was all down to the players. Despite the opposition being down to ten men, we couldn’t score a goal and ended up conceding two in front of our home fans to bow out of the Champions League.
Gerrard’s the one who’s got us into this position, so sacking him will only take us back to square one.
He’s certainly going to be given the time to succeed but his task is now going to get a lot harder with no Champions League revenue.
We’re possibly destined to lose one if not two big-name players this summer.
Our fringe players and new signings will now have to compensate for their absence and ensure that we successfully retain the title.
