Tom English slams Rangers on Twitter after Malmo humiliation

BBC Scotland journalist Tom English believes Rangers are unable to deal with the pressure of having fans back inside stadiums after Malmo defeat.

After losing the first leg 2-1 to Malmo, Rangers started the second strongly and even took an early lead through Alfredo Morelos.

They were even handed another gift when Malmo went down to ten men, but failed to capitalise on it and gave away two goals in the second half to lose 4-2 on aggregate and get knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers.

After the game, English took to Twitter to deliver his verdict on the Gers and their performance against Malmo.

He wrote, “Rangers have blown a massive opportunity there. Waved goodbye to a ton of much-needed loot and missed out on the big-time games in the CL.

“Toiling badly to deal with expectation and pressure. Three losses in a row. Only lost three times in 56 games last season (without fans).”

Falling off a cliff

One month ago, everything seemed fine. We made some good signings, enjoyed an above average pre-season campaign and looked set to kick on and ensure we qualify for the Champions League and win our 56th league title.

However, three weeks into the new season and we’re already out of the Champions League and suffered our first league defeat in 41 games.

English says that what’s changed is fans inside the stadium and that could be playing on the minds of players.

Rangers

There’s no reason for us to have lost this game having a man advantage. Even when it was 11 v 11 we were the better team and would probably have gone to score another if we kept playing that way.

In the second half, we seemed uninterested and took our eyes off the game, thinking that the job was done and we would miraculously score the winner, but that didn’t happen.

Antonio Colak’s first goal should’ve been a wake up call for us, but it wasn’t and five minutes later we let him score another to make things nigh on impossible.

The team let down the Ibrox crowd massively on Tuesday night and an instant response in terms of performances and results is the need of the hour.
