Rangers fans have blasted Connor Goldson for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Malmo at Ibrox on Tuesday night.

Steven Gerrard’s men were dumped out of the Champions League in front of their own fans despite taking the lead early on.

Alfredo Morelos’ opener in the first half meant the Gers were level at 2-2 on aggregate before Bonke Innocent was sent off for a second yellow card just before half-time.

Goldson played a role in that sending off as the foul was on him but replays suggest the Light Blues defender made the most of the contact and, if anything, was more in the wrong than Innocent was.

After the break, Malmo raced out of the blocks and scored twice quickfire goals after Rangers’ defence let them down yet again.

You’d struggle to think this was the same defence that conceded just 13 goals in the Premiership last season – they’ve now conceded five in their last three matches.

We asked our panel of Rangers Super Fans for their thoughts on Leon Balogun’s performance in the defence as Gerrard brought the Nigerian into the side to replace Filip Helander.

However, the majority of fans averted their gaze from Balogun and took aim at Goldson for his “horrific” defensive display.

Here is what they had to say:

Some Rangers fans have even made their minds up on who should come back into the side with calls for Nikola Katic to start in Gerrard’s defence growing louder.

Gerrard needs to give Goldson a massive talking to after that performance against Malmo.

Not only was his role in the sending off an absolute embarrassment as he basically conned the referee, but his overall defensive displays for the last three matches have been abject.

It’s nowhere near what we expect from him and we reckon that some complacency has crept into the centre-back’s game.

It needs to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible because it’s already cost us our unbeaten run in the league and our chances of making the Champions League group stages.
