Michael Stewart reacts as Dundee United beat Rangers

Michael Stewart was blown away by the “incredible” improvement Dundee United showed in their 1-0 win against Rangers at Tannadice on Saturday.

Jamie Robson’s second-half goal was enough to secure victory for the Terrors and hand Steven Gerrard their first defeat in the league for 41 matches.

Ex-Hearts and Hibs midfielder Stewart took to Twitter after the match to pay tribute to Tam Courts’ side and claimed that it’ll be more difficult for teams like Rangers to play on the road this season due to the returning fans.

“Well done Dundee Utd. An incredible turnaround from last week at Pittodrie. Supporters back in the ground playing their part again,” said Stewart in one tweet.

He added: “Just reaffirms how much more difficult it’ll be this season away from home. All the biggest clubs back in the top flight and in pretty good shape with their fans behind them.”

Dundee United deserved it

Let’s face it, Rangers were flat, lacked creativity and defending poorly whereas Dundee United pushed us all game and took their one golden opportunity with aplomb.

We’ve seen this week that this team is not unbeatable with two defeats suffered on the road in as many matches.

Teams won’t relish a trip to Ibrox based on the way we dismantled Livingston but it’s something Gerrard needs to nip in the bud now before it threatens our chances of winning silverware.

Celtic have already seen that it’s tough to win away from home by losing to Hearts on the opening day of the season with fans creating cauldrons of noise on their returns.

It may start to die down a little as the season goes on but for now, it’s something to watch out for.

Either way, whether they’re boosted by the fans or not, Dundee United are a team the Gers should be beating.

That performance was not good enough by any stretch of the imagination.
