John Lundstram must be axed from Rangers XI v Malmo

After an abject performance against Dundee United over the weekend, new Rangers signing John Lundstram must be axed from the playing XI.

Gers are set to square off against Malmo in the Champions League qualifiers, knowing that anything less than a victory will result in them being knocked out of the competition.

Having lost 2-1 in the first leg, Steven Gerrard knows that he needs his best eleven for the game, and Lundstram unfortunately does not make our cut.

Rangers

The former Sheffield United midfielder was at fault for the goal that ended Rangers’ 40-game unbeaten league run.

He wasn’t the only underperforming player on the day, but since his arrival, he hasn’t seemed like the perfect fit for Gerrard’s system and he cannot afford to take that risk on Tuesday night.

Against Dundee United on Saturday, the Englishman won just one ground duel – having attempted three [Sofascore]. He looked off the pace playing on the right side of the midfield as well.

There may be games in the league for him to redeem himself, but we believe that Gerrard should rope in Scott Arfield for the Malmo game.

Rangers

Arfield didn’t start the weekend game so will be fit and well-rested for Tuesday night.

He played the reverse fixture when Glen Kamara was suspended, and in our view will offer much more balance to our midfield than Lundstram would.

Steven Davis can anchor our midfield while Kamara and Arfield could alternate going forward and depending on the situation of the game, both may look to gain possession in the final third of the pitch.

All eyes are going to be on the team sheets on Tuesday evening and we hope that Lundstram’s name is not on it.
