Tam McManus slams Rangers after shock defeat, reflects on Malmo game

Rangers have been labelled “dreadful” after they suffered their first league defeat in 41 games.

After losing in mid-week to Malmo, the Gers were expected to come out all guns blazing against Dundee United, but that did not happen and they eventually went down 1-0 at Tannadice Park.

Defender Jamie Robson scored the only goal of the game – handing Rangers an early-season eye-opener before a must-win European clash on Tuesday.

Via his personal Twitter account, The Football Show pundit waxed lyrical of Dundee United and slammed the Gers performance.

He wrote: “What a result for Dundee United. Superb they were, it was thoroughly deserved.

“Rangers were dreadful again following on from Malmö during the week.”

Unravelling

We’ve been awful in our last two games which is shameful after having a relatively good transfer window and Glen Kamara’s future seemingly all but sorted.

However, if we play the way we did today, there’s no chance that we’re qualifying for the Champions League. Despite dominating possession, we only mustered two shots on goal and never looked like having that clinical edge in the final third.

Steven Davis in the middle of the park was also far from impressive and per SofaScore, lost four out of his five attempted ground duels. For our deepest lying midfielder, these aren’t impressive numbers.

Steven Gerrard has to get into the heads of the players as they’re currently seemingly all over the place. Two losses are enough to bring down the morale of the squad and the onus is now on the manager to keep things upbeat.

The first game to change things is undoubtedly our biggest game in the last few seasons and we cannot afford to not be at our hundred per cent for that one.

We cannot deal with another season in the Europa League as it’s derailing us from progressing in the way we have over the last three years.
