Jim White shares instant reaction as Rangers lose 1-0 at Dundee United

Jim White has tweeted his instant reaction to the news that Rangers have lost 1-0 at Dundee United on Saturday afternoon, pouring praise on the home side.

The Gers lost their 40-game Premiership unbeaten run at Tannadice in meek fashion, registering just two shots on target during the whole game.

It capped an awful week for Steven Gerrard and his players after Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Malmo in Sweden.

TalkSPORT host White was quick to praise the performance of Dundee United after their win over the reigning champions, who went the entire previous campaign undefeated in league action.

Writing via his personal Twitter profile, White said: “What a result at Tannadice! Champions Rangers – 40 games unbeaten in the league – go down 1-0 to magnificent Dundee United.”

Tough to take

We went down with a whimper today, and that’s probably the hardest thing to take.

As expected, we were swamped in Dundee United’s half after they scored in the second half, but there were not enough goalbound efforts to trouble Benjamin Siegrist in the home side’s net.

Nor was there incessant pressure that constantly troubled the Tangerines – they were relatively comfortable throughout, and that will sting Gerrard.

The players will have to regroup quickly and ensure they are not too perturbed by this result as Malmo visit Ibrox on Tuesday for the return leg of the Champions League third-round qualifiers.

After a positive pre-season that saw us pick up a win against Spanish giants Real Madrid and draws with Premier League sides Arsenal and Brighton, we have been brought back to earth this week, despite starting it with a 3-0 victory against Livingston.

Now the pressure will be cranked all the way up and these players will have to prove themselves once again.

If we learnt one thing last season, it’s that this group do not shirk a challenge.
