Steven Gerrard: Ianis Hagi ruled out of Rangers clash v Dundee United

Ianis Hagi will be missing for Rangers on Saturday when they take on Dundee United at Ibrox in the Premiership.

Hagi, 22, was on the receiving end of a horrible challenge by Adam Lewis last week after the Romanian opened the scoring in a 3-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox.

The attacking midfielder missed the defeat to Malmo in Champions League qualifying on Tuesday night and is now set to sit out of the game against Dundee United at Tannadice this weekend.

Speaking ahead of the match in a press conference on Friday, Gerrard was quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account as saying: “We will be without Ianis Hagi.

“[Kemar] Roofe is available to return to the group, [Glen] Kamara will return to the squad.

“[Alfredo] Morelos is available but he will need a couple of sessions on his return. Ryan Jack will be another couple of weeks all being well.”

Gutted

It’s a major blow for Rangers to be without Hagi.

The Romanian was brilliant for the Gers last season as they won the league title without suffering a defeat, scoring seven goals and supplying 12 assists in 32 Premiership appearances.

He started this season off brilliantly too with a well-taken goal against Livingston.

Rangers missed his ability on Tuesday night in the defeat to Malmo as they struggled to make clear-cut chances in the attack.

While Dundee United should not pose as much of a challenge as Malmo, they could still prove to be tough to break down without a technically gifted playmaker like Hagi.

Gerrard says Roofe is available to return to the team after serving a suspension against Malmo so he’s an option to start out on the right-wing.

Scott Wright is also available to play if Gerrard wants him to because he impressed off the bench against Livingston last week.

In other Rangers news, Dave King has made an exciting claim about a potential £60million-plus windfall at Ibrox.
