Connor Goldson wants to remain with Rangers with contract talks ongoing

Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson has insisted he wants to remain at Ibrox beyond the end of his current contract – which expires next summer.

The 28-year-old joined the Gers from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2018 on a four-year deal, and has been a crucial player for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Goldson is looking forward to spending more seasons with the Scottish Premiership champions and has instructed his agent to sort out his future.

The Englishman told Sky Sports: “I obviously don’t deal with it, my representatives and Rangers are talking. I have had a few conversations with the gaffer and Ross Wilson over the last couple of months.

“We are all speaking, we are all talking regularly but as of now there are a lot of games and I am just trying to concentrate on football.”

“I am just trying to concentrate on helping Rangers win. I am open to it (staying long term with Rangers) the talks are ongoing. My representatives wouldn’t be talking if I wasn’t open to it.

“Hopefully something can get done, hopefully, it can move forward, but, I have told my agent I don’t want to hear about it until something does get done.”

Huge boost

As it stands, Goldson is free to enter into talks with clubs outside of Scotland next January and agree a pre-contract, and hearing from the player’s mouth that he wants a new deal is great news.

He featured in every minute of all 56 competitive games last season, playing a huge role in helping the Ibrox side secure the title and we need him again for the new challenges ahead.

After losing 2-1 to Malmo on Tuesday, the Bears need to be on top of their game at Ibrox in the return leg of the Champions League third round qualifying to progress to the play-offs.

Rangers

Goldson will be more than eager to give his all on the pitch for such a crucial game, and we definitely should be keeping such a player.

After going last season without a defeat in the Premiership, the Light Blues started their title defence with a 3-0 win over Livingston last Saturday thanks to the centre-back.

He is currently in the peak years of his career, and dedicating them to us is a massive boost.

The Light Blues need to reward him with improved terms that reflect his status in the club, and the fans will be eagerly waiting for an official confirmation of a contract extension.
