Rangers predicted XI v Dundee United, three changes after Malmo loss

Steven Gerrard is predicted to make three changes to his starting line-up as Rangers return to Premiership action on Saturday with a trip to Dundee United.

On Tuesday night, the Gers were beaten 2-1 by Malmo in the first leg of a Champions League qualifier but as Gerrard has a number of suspended players available again, it’s likely that he’ll make changes ahead of playing at Tannadice this weekend.

Scott Arfield, Scott Wright and Cedric Itten are all expected to be dropped by Gerrard with Glen Kamara, Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala coming back into the side.

As it’s still early days in the season and players who played in international fixtures in the summer are returning from their breaks, so it’s difficult to give an accurate prediction of what team Gerrard will start.

Ryan Jack and Nnamdi Ofoborh will miss out while Alfredo Morelos is also unlikely to make an appearance as he was only this week spotted at Glasgow Airport as he serves a period in self-isolation.

But it’s almost nailed on that Allan McGregor will start in goals while Gerrard could also go with a back-four of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Borna Barisic.

Kamara is available again after being suspended for the defeat to Malmo and he could start in the midfield with Steven Davis, who scored a late goal in Sweden to keep the tie alive, and summer signing John Lundstram.

Roofe was also banned against Malmo but he could start on the right amid doubts over Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi’s fitness. Wright has done well but could be rested after his efforts in Sweden.

Ryan Kent is very likely to start on the left while summer signing Sakala could start up front in place of Itten as he started the opening league match against Livingston.

Gerrard will want him to get off the mark as soon as possible and grab his first competitive goal for the Light Blues.
