Alex McLeish reacts to Rangers race to sign Joey Veerman
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has predicted a potential major Rangers exit with interest in Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman.
The links with the Dutchman don’t appear to have disappeared, despite the completed deal for John Lundstram in this window.
McLeish believes that Veerman will only arrive should someone leave, with Glen Kamara likely to be the one he’s alluding too.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It’s looking like a really crowded midfield if Veerman comes in.
“You may expect someone may leave, and then bringing in Veerman. He looks strong with good experience in the Dutch league.
“He has got the pedigree, but it gives the feeling that someone may leave Ibrox.”
All eyes on Glen.
Kamara is the name on everyone’s lips at Ibrox, with still no contract extension being agreed between club and player.
Glasgow Times journalist Christopher Jack suggested last month that a £7million move was on the cards for Veerman.
Ryan Jack is currently injured, and Scott Arfield didn’t look at his best against Malmo last night, so that may have sparked Steven Gerrard’s plans.
Veerman can bomb forward from midfield and is more similar to Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi, so may not be the perfect replacement should Kamara leave.
New signings are unnecessary should Kamara stick around and sign a new deal, but things could progress very quickly in the next three weeks.
