Rangers fans are keen to see Gary Cahill arrive at Ibrox this summer after it was confirmed that he’s left Crystal Palace.

At the weekend, the 35-year-old centre-back took to Twitter to announce his departure from Selhurst Park following the conclusion of his contract.

Palace had let a number of players leave at the end of last season but Cahill’s future was unresolved until Sunday.

Rangers

Rangers have been linked with a move to sign the now-free agent, who’s won everything there is to win in English club football.

In July, The Sun reported that Steven Gerrard now wants to take the former Chelsea, Aston Villa and Bolton centre-back to Ibrox where there could be a £35,000-a-week deal for him.

Our panel of Rangers Super Fans want to see Gerrard reunite with his former England team-mate in Govan this summer, with one saying that he will “bring PL experience the same way [Jermiane] Defoe did”.

Here is what they had to say:

If there is one position that does not need to be upgraded at Ibrox, it’s the centre-back area.

Last term, Gerrard’s defence conceded just 13 goals in the league and while that was largely down to the impressive performances of goalkeeper Allan McGregor, the likes of Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun were also brilliant.

If the Gers are going to sign a new centre-back it’s got to be one who can compete with a starting spot with those three.

Yes, Gerrard also has Nikola Katic and Jack Simpson among his options but if a player comes along who can be a major upgrade, then you have to consider taking them.

Cahill may be getting on but look at our squad. McGregor, Steven Davis and Defoe – all of them are at the latter stages of their career and all of them are absolutely excelling at Ibrox.

What if Cahill is the next golden oldie to arrive in Govan?

Can we really turn our noses up at someone with his CV?

In other Rangers news, Gerrard has got this decision on one of his star players totally wrong.
