Crisis talks in Scotland after Rangers refuse to display sponsor, top-flight CEO reacts
Crisis talks have taken place between important SPFL figures and their sponsor cinch after a stand-off involving Rangers, according to Record Sport.
The Gers refused to display the car company’s branding on their shirts or around Ibrox during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Livingston, with the club believing “certain loopholes in the partnership with cinch mean they are under no obligation to promote the English based firm”.
However, there are major fears emanating in Scotland as top-flight clubs grown concerned about a threat to the £8million sponsorship package which could be withdrawn.

Record Sport carried quotes from “an anxious top-flight chief executive” in their exclusive story. They said: “Cinch have committed a lot of money to have their name attached to the league. If the Premiership champions are not prepared to promote their logo then obviously they will feel as if they are not getting value for money.
“It’s a hugely embarrassing situation and it has to be resolved before they decide to terminate the agreement.”

Another battle ahead?
Rangers have had their fair share of blows with fellow Scottish clubs and the bigwigs at the SPFL, and there could be another showdown brewing.
Essentially, this all boils down to the topic of money once again.
The SPFL clearly wants to keep their major sponsor happy to ensure they distribute the promised funds around the league, and they won’t be impressed to see the leading club in the division refusing to display them.
However, it seems the powerbrokers at Rangers believe there are clauses in the contract that allow them to circumvent their obligations.
Ultimately, if the club has been clever enough to trump the SPFL, and the league has ensured they are protected, that’s not on Rangers to worry about.
Of course, there are other clubs in the league to think about, but does everyone have Rangers in mind all of the time?
This could be an issue that is set to rumble on for some time.
In other Rangers news, this player is set to join an English club ahead of a 2021/22 Ibrox exit.
