Ally McCoist discusses Rangers and the Champions League
Ally McCoist has insisted that if Rangers get into the Champions League group stages, then the “good times” will definitely be back at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Daily Record, the former Gers striker revealed that he had been in “tears” when Steven Gerrard led his side to the title, and that should Rangers win against Malmo and then one of Olympiacos or Ludogorets then the return to the top will be complete.
The Gers face Malmo tonight in Sweden before playing them at Ibrox next Tuesday in front of potentially a very large crowd, and it is clear that McCoist is excited about the prospect of Rangers playing in the group stages of the Champions League [the Daily Record].

He said: “It would mean everything (to get back to the group stage).
“To see the club back in the group stages of the Champions League, well, that would be it for me. We are 99 per cent back. All Rangers fans were greetin’ last year when we won the title.
“Let’s not kid ourselves; we were all in tears. It was an amazing experience, I had a wee chat with Walter Smith, and it meant so much to us all.
“But get us back into the Champions League, and the good times will definitely be back. Of that, there is no doubt, and for me, that would complete the journey.
“I would be so pleased and proud to see the club back in the Champions League.”
McCoist is bang on the money!
It is very clear that McCoist is dreaming of returning to the Champions League and the Gers are not far away from achieving that.
Under Gerrard, they have had some brilliant runs in the Europa League, reaching the last-16 in the 2019/20 season and the 2020/21 season.

Now it is time for them to go one step further and try and reach the group stages of UEFA’s premier competition, where the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid all potentially await.
Malmo won’t be an easy tie, and neither will either Olympiacos or Ludogorets but the Gers have performed on the European stage under Gerrard before, and it would be fantastic to see them back in the Champions League.
McCoist is clearly excited by what his former club could achieve, and we are as well.
