Davie Provan: Rangers are pushing boat out to bankroll Steven Gerrard
Rangers are “pushing the boat out to bankroll” their manager Steven Gerrard, according to ex-Celtic player Davie Provan.
Gerrard, 41, joined the Gers in 2018 and has since overseen a huge improvement, culminating in an invincible title-winning season last term.
Celtic, on the other hand, have suffered blow after blow with the Hoops now out of the Champions League, facing a Europa League play-off against Jablonec and losing their Premiership opener versus Hearts with Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

Provan cannot believe the difference between the two clubs now and claims that if Gerrard delivers again this season, it could lead to a major financial windfall at Ibrox.
“Nine years ago, Rangers were doing the rounds at Peterhead, Annan and Elgin. Across town Celtic were beating Barcelona on their way to the Champions League knockout stage,” Provan wrote on the Scottish Sun website.
“Now? Rangers are favourites to make the groups while Celts have a scrap with Jablonec to stay in the Europa League. You couldn’t make it up.
“Sure, you could argue Rangers are pushing the boat out to bankroll Steven Gerrard. But if he gets them into the groups this season and wins the Premiership, Rangers will be £70m better off.”

Soak it in, Bears
Look at those words. Look at those words again and let it soak in because they are the words of someone completely refusing to believe what they are seeing.
Celtic are abysmal and may even struggle to finish second in the Premiership this season, let alone challenge us for the title.
They could easily drop out of Europe too with Postecoglou failing to win any of his first three competitive matches in charge of the Parkhead club.
Rangers, on the other hand, hammered Livingston on the opening day and face a Champions League qualifier against Malmo next week.
While that will be tough and there’s definitely a chance of us being knocked out, we’re still backing the Bears to get a result and everyone is bound to be more confident of us going further in Europe than Celtic.
Celtic are the laughing stock of Scottish football and after almost a decade of humiliation, it’s nice to see the tables turn.
Rangers are finally being controlled as they should be. And it’s working wonders.
In other Rangers news, a player has left his club amid speculation about a big-money move to Ibrox.
