Alex McLeish: Real Madrid win will give Rangers immense confidence

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has predicted that Rangers will be brimming with confidence after their pre-season victory over Real Madrid.

The Bears dominated the Galacticos at Ibrox over the weekend, winning 2-1 but leaving the pitch knowing they could easily have scored more.

McLeish has insisted that the Bears will now be relishing their European qualifiers with Malmo after that huge scalp.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It wasn’t their strongest team, but at the same time, it is Real Madrid.

“That is another big confidence booster, and another reassurance for Rangers ahead of the European ties.”

Incredible.

To go through pre-season without losing to Premier League opposition twice, and then beating Real Madrid was perfect.

We can wipe away the Tranmere game with it being so early in the preparation and not having our full squad.

The likes of Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram have just made this squad even better, and without any big names leaving, we are in the best position possible.

Malmo will be surely looking at this tie and just hoping for the best, a decade after they beat us at the same stage of the competition.

Times have changed, and it is time for Steven Gerrard and the Bears to go out there and prove it with two dominating performances.

Celtic proved how easy it can all unravel in Europe last night, and it is up to the Bears to show them how it is done next week.
