Chris Sutton tweets as Rangers draw Dunfermline in Premier Sports Cup
Rangers have been drawn to play Dunferlime at Ibrox in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup.
Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton tweeted in instant reaction to the announcement on Sunday, which was made via the official Premier Sport Twitter account.
Sutton wrote: “Rangers first out of the hat at home…”
Weird
It’s a bit of a weird tweet by Sutton because he could have easily said something about his former team Celtic getting a draw against Hearts or reigning champions St Johnstone getting an away day at Arbroath.
Of course, with Sutton, he’s made it about Rangers though.
He’s obviously missed the mighty Gers while there has been no club football and at the very first mention of them, he’s onto Twitter.
We cannot wait for the new season to kick off next week.
Steven Gerrard’s men will start their title defence with a home match against Livingston on Saturday.
That will then be followed by a Champions League qualifier against either Malmo or HJK Helsinki before playing Dundee United away.
It’s going to be a hectic few weeks with qualification to the Champions League group stages on the line while also trying to get transfers sorted, keeping the squad together and getting off the mark in the league.
But we trust that Gerrard and his men will be able to do that, as they did last season.
Rangers shouldn’t be finished with their summer business yet and we’d love to see someone like Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman come in to bolster Gerrard’s central options.
If we get Veerman in and keep hold of players like Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, there’s every chance we’ll storm to the title again and leave Celtic eating our dust with Sutton crying his eyes out again.
In other Rangers news, an English club chief has spoken out about speculation linking his team with a move for this Ibrox ace.
