Michael Ball: Vitesse Arnhem centre-back Danilho Doekhi is perfect for Rangers
Vitesse Arnhem centre-back Danilho Doekhi has suggested he would consider a Rangers move, and Michael Ball reckons he would be perfect playing for the club.
According to De Telegraaf, the Light Blues are among the clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer, and he has told De Gelderlander when asked about interest from Rangers and other suitors that he will “seriously think about it” if a tangible offer arrives.
Arnhem are not open to selling Doekhi, though, but Ball is confident that he would not have an issue hitting the ground running at Ibrox if a move works out.
“He is young and the Dutch style of centre-half in that he is good on the ball,” the ex-Rangers left-back told Football Transfer Tavern.
“But he needs to add nastiness to his game and it would be perfect playing for Rangers. When you’re against lower opposition in Scotland, they give everything because they want to sign for Rangers and Celtic.
“Because of that, you’ve got to be on your toes and aggressive at the right times. He’s a young kid and got the opportunity to sign for a huge team like Rangers. I’m all for it.”
Rangers are not short of centre-backs at the moment, but manager Steven Gerrard could do with a quality addition with the future of Connor Goldson unclear.
With just 12 months left on the deal of the Englishman, he is free to speak with suitors and agree to a pre-contract deal in January.
Apparently, both club and player are struggling to reach a decision over an extension, and it is best to start finding a potential replacement as soon as possible.
The ball-playing Doekhi made 37 appearances for the Eredivisie side last term, scoring once and assisting once, and he would fancy his chances of impressing at Rangers.
With his side not playing in Europe and unlikely to challenge for the title next term, the prospects of winning silverware and playing in the Champions League could lure him into agreeing a move should we go all out for his signature.
Whether that is on the cards remains unknown, but it is one transfer rumour that might not go away anytime soon.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard admits ‘two fantastic players’ could force him to change Light Blues formation.
