Brian Kinnear on trial at West Ham after Rangers departure
Former Rangers goalkeeper Brian Kinnear is currently on trial with West Ham United, according to the Daily Record.
The 20-year-old left the Scottish champions following the expiry of his contract at the start of this month, and could land himself a deal should he impress the Europa League-bound side.
Daily Record claimed on their live blog [Friday at 4:45 pm] that Kinnear had been of interest to English Championship side Birmingham City before his trial with the Hammers.
The former Rangers youth prospect never got to make a first-team debut for us, and only became famous for being part of the five players who were caught breaking COVID protocols earlier this year.
Kinnear was on trials with Birmingham in May, but it appears they were not willing to hand him a deal, and he would have to really impress the West Ham coaches to earn a move to the London team.
The Scotland under-21 international did not particularly catch the eyes during a loan spell at Annan Athletic in the Scottish League Two last season.
He played twice – once in the league – a 1-0 loss to Queen’s Park – and once in the Scottish FA Cup – with Annan beaten on penalties by Highlands League side Formartine.
Rangers will surely not miss Kinnear right now, but he is still young and can turn his career around going forward.
Should he land a deal with West Ham, the young goalie would be featuring for their under-23s.
Given the ages of their three main goalkeepers, he could be playing for the senior team sooner rather than later should he impress.
