Report: Rangers table £3.85m bid for Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman
Rangers have made a £3.85million offer for Heerenveen’s highly-rated midfield talent Joey Veerman, per De Telegraaf.
According to the report, as transcribed by Scottish journalist Barry Anderson, Italian side Hellas Verona have tabled a bid in the region of £4.5million.
The onus is now on the player as to which move he prefers, given that both clubs have tabled official bids and are keen on signing him this summer.
Would be a coup
Signing a player like Veerman for under £4m would prove to be a coup as the midfielder has all the skills needed to be a successful playmaker in the Scottish Premiership.
Daily Record journalist Graeme Young, who has followed his career with a close eye, has referred to him as a “multi-skilled” player.
Steven Gerrard is also understood to be a fan of the 22-year-old and is keen to bring him to the Ibrox this summer.
As a matter of fact, he plays the same midfield position as Gerrard used to in his prime, so the Rangers boss knows a similar player when he sees one and that should be enough to get the fans excited should he decide to move to Glasgow this summer.
We’ve got a solid midfield foundation but could do with the mobility and creativity of a Veerman-esque player so the interest in him comes as no surprise to us.
Dutch players have previously come to Scotland and succeeded – eventually using the league as a stepping stone for greater things. While we would want players to stay on for longer, it surely would play at the back of Veerman’s mind before he makes a decision.
Verona are a mid-table club and do not challenge for trophies like we do. They will also not be able to offer the 22-year-old Champions League football – which is every player’s dream.
