Ben Williamson reacts on Twitter after Rangers midfielder signs new contract
Ben Williamson has expressed his delight after signing a new contract at Rangers before heading out on loan to Livingston.
Rangers announced on their official club website on Monday evening that the 19-year-old had signed a new two-year deal that keeps him at the club until the summer of 2023.
They also confirmed that the midfielder will make a season-long loan switch to Premiership outfit Livingston after beginning pre-season training with the Gers first team.
Williamson reacted to his new deal and subsequent move to Livi on his personal Twitter profile.
He wrote: “Buzzing to sign a season-long loan at Livingston. Can’t wait to get started, also delighted to sign another extension RangersFC.”
Big campaign ahead
The Scotland Under-21 international is now set for his first season of playing top-flight football, after an impressive loan spell at Championship outfit Arbroath during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
He even managed to pick up Arboath’s Young Player of the Season award for his efforts.
Williamson is yet to make his competitive debut for the Gers, though he did make an appearance in the club’s first pre-season friendly versus Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
Evidently, he’s a young talent that Steven Gerrard and the rest of the coaches have high high hopes for, something made particularly obvious by his close contact with the Light Blues this summer.
Now he has the chance to prove his Premiership credentials for Livi, and he can be watched even more closely by the club this coming season.
Competition is fierce in the Gers midfield so he will have to ensure he stands out to have a chance of breaking into the Gers squad next season, but he clearly has the talent to do so.
