Alex McLeish tips big interest in Rangers defender Connor Goldson
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has tipped huge clubs to be sniffing around the likes of Rangers defender Connor Goldson this summer.
The Bears enforcer is one of the only players at Ibrox, along with Glen Kamara who don’t have their long-term future sorted.
McLeish believes that makes them big targets for others, and insisted that “great” offers could be coming through the door.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I think Rangers and Celtic are targets for huge clubs.
“It is a different kind of level of football, you talk about clubs such as Watford getting to the Premier League, they now have that command.
“Teams like that might be able to offer a great amount of money to these types of players such as Goldson.
“The players are in a very strong position.”
Goldson cannot be allowed to leave Ibrox, no matter what offers come flooding in.
The situation is different with Kamara, and there is an acceptance behind that given the signing of John Lundstram.
Steven Gerrard likes to rotate his squad regularly, but Goldson is the one player who will always be on the team sheet, no matter what.
Some players are replaceable, but we would find it hard to accept Goldson leaving Glasgow, no matter what offers come through the door.
Gerrard and the Bears would be able to make this talk disappear very quickly, all they need to do is secure his long-term future with a new contract.
