Alex McLeish: Rangers must hand new deal to Conor Goldson
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers must hand a new contract to defender Conor Goldson ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Steven Gerrard built his team around the likes of the colossus last season, and it led to that unbelievable defensive record.
McLeish believes that agents will be working behind the scenes to get a deal done, as Goldson loves playing at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I totally agree, they have to do that.
“They can’t waste any time on that. I’m sure that the agents would be on the front foot for tying him down, because he has been exceptional.
“The defence was pivotal to the Championship win, it looks as though Goldson loves playing for Rangers so I can’t see him going elsewhere.
“If they tied him down now, it just needs to be tweaked a little bit.”
There is simply no choice but to get to work on this one.
You would find it nearly impossible to find a single Rangers fan who wouldn’t want Goldson tied down long term in Glasgow.
Goldson started against Tranmere this afternoon and will be raring to get stuck back into the action in all competitions.
The Champions League is back at Ibrox next season and tying down some of our best players such as Goldson and Glen Kamara.
We can’t wait for any potential announcement, and how excited everyone will be in Glasgow – get it done.
