Rangers hold talks with free agent John Lundstram
Rangers are frontrunners to sign free agent John Lundstram after holding talks with the midfielder, according to SunSport.
The news outlet claims Rangers have reignited their interest in the 27-year-old who left Sheffield United last month after four years with the South Yorkshire club.
The Gers were linked with a move in January but it looks like they have firmed up that interest now.
Lundstram is said to be attracting interest from Championship clubs in England too, but Rangers are now considered to be favourites to secure his signature.
The Liverpool-born player is still assessing his options but SunSport’s report claims the Glasgow club are “hopeful” a deal can be done for the ‘powerful’ [The Star] midfielder.
Steven Gerrard is clearly eager to ensure he has a wealth of options to choose from again this season.
He has made no secret of his desire to have plenty of players at his disposal as he juggles domestic and European commitments.
Last season’s Europa League campaign proved that a big squad is vital in ensuring we remain competitive right to the latter stages.
We suffered a few notable injuries towards the end of the season, particularly to the likes of James Tavernier and Ryan Jack, and Gerrard will be keen to make sure the levels do not drop again.
Midfield looks to be one of our strongest areas with Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo established as the first-choice trio in the absence of Jack, but another body is probably required as we eye entry into the Champions League group stages.
Bongani Zungu barely started a game for us but he was readily available as a substitute, and after returning back to parent club Amiens we are a body light in that position from last season.
Therefore, a deal for Lundstram on a free transfer makes a lot of sense.
In other Rangers news, a significant clause has been tabled in a bid for this Gers star bid.
