Porto offer £10.3m fee and 20% sell-on clause for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos
Porto have offered a 20% sell-on clause in their £10.3million bid for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to Ekrem Konur.
The Twitter-verified journalist, with over 100,000 followers, made the claim on his personal Twitter profile on Saturday evening amid mounting speculation over the Colombian's future.
Konur wrote: "Porto offered a €12 million [£10.3million] transfer fee to Rangers for Alfredo Morelos and a 20% stake in Morelos' next sale."
Important
£10.3million for Morelos certainly isn't a fee that excites us, and it does not reflect Morelos' true importance to Rangers.
However, Portuguese news outlet A Bola reported there could be an extra £4.2million in bonuses.
Now, Konur is claiming that there could be a 20% sell-on clause in the future.
That would mean that Rangers would be entitled to 20% of any fee Porto are paid for Morelos in the future - therefore, if he continues to impress there and is sold for £30million, we would receive a further £6million for him.
Combining all those components together and that would see us net an overall amount north of £20million.
That would be a much fairer fee for Morelos, but bonuses and a sell-on clause are very performance-heavy and that comes with a risk.
He certainly has the talent to take himself to new heights and move on again for a bigger fee, but what if he gets injured? That would slow his progress down considerably.
Nothing has been announced or confirmed regarding Morelos and a transfer out of Ibrox this summer, but we're being realistic. There has been a lot of noise over his future recently and it would be fair to assume that he is looking for a lucrative move elsewhere after four great years of service.
We just hope the initial price can be driven up.
