Kevin Nisbet on Rangers radar, Steven Gerrard an admirer of the Hibernian striker

Rangers are weighing up a summer swoop for Kevin Nisbet with Steven Gerrard an “admirer” of the Hibernian striker, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish news outlet claims Gerrard is a fan of the 24-year-old Scottish international after a sensational season for Hibs, but he is unlikely to make a move unless one of his own strikers are sold.

Nisbet has also been recommended to new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, as per the Daily Record’s report, while Russian sides Spartak Moscow and Krasnodar are keeping close tabs on him.

Nisbet came through the ranks at Partick Thistle, making 17 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Jags, but it was last season where he really made his name in the Scottish top-tier.

After hitting 18 goals in 25 Championships games for Dunfermline Athletic in 2019/20, he signed for Hibs and hasn’t looked back since.

14 goals in 33 outings for the Edinburgh side last season made him the second top scorer in the league, and earned him a call-up to Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad.

Nisbet played in all three of Scotland’s group games as they crashed out without a win, but he was a late substitute in all and failed to make a substantial impact.

However, the 24-year-old has shown himself to be a prolific scorer in Scotland, something which has surely piqued Gerrard’s interest.

But he’s only had one consistent season in the top-flight and it would be a slight risk to splash out on him this summer.

The Daily Record’s report suggests Gerrard will only make a move if one of his strikers leave the club this summer, and the most likely is surely Morelos with various outlets such as A Bola linking him with a transfer to Portuguese giants Porto.

As such, if Nisbet was to be Morelos’ replacement, it would be a slight disappointment.

He would be welcome as competition for the main striker, but we’re unsure if he should be entrusted as the number one option.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are frontrunners to sign this ‘Powerful’ player after behind-the-scenes negotiations.
