Dundee United's Chris Docherty raves about Rangers duo Steven Gerrard and Beale
Dundee United new head of tactical performance Chris Docherty has raved about Rangers coach Michael Beale and Steven Gerrard.
The 29-year-old will be responsible for scouting the club’s opponents next season among other duties and will be plotting how the Terrors can pick up results whenever they face the Light Blues.
Nevertheless, Docherty is a fan of Rangers first-team coach Beale, admitting he loves how manager Steven Gerrard has given him all the freedom to work.
“Steven Gerrard recently made a good point on a podcast with Robbie Fowler about why he allows Michael Beale a lot of freedom in the position of first-team coach at Rangers,” Dundee Utd tactics chief told The Scottish Sun.
“Gerrard said he would need 20 years to get the coaching experience that Michael Beale has so he’s not going to tell him how to coach. That’s an example of a very smart guy.
“Now Gerrard has things that none of us will have considering his playing career and the exposure and attention he generated and the players who’ll want to play for him.
“But he made a decision to bring in someone behind him who has an education in training methodology. I’m a huge fan of Michael Beale, he’s someone with a lot of knowledge.”
Gerrard’s brilliance recognised
While the Rangers manager earned most of the plaudits as we secured the Premiership title at Celtic’s expense last term, Beale’s role in the victory cannot be overemphasised.
He played a crucial role in the title triumph, and Gerrard’s decision to bring him in from Liverpool is yielding a lot of good.
Beale spent 10 years coaching Chelsea’s youth sides before moving to Liverpool as their under-16 manager.
He soon became the Reds under-23s boss followed by a brief stint as the assistant manager of Brazil top-flight side Sao Paulo in early 2017.
Rangers have been a better side thanks to him, and we are not sure majority of the fans and outsiders will ever get to know how huge he has been to our growth and success.
The players adore him and ex-Gers star Kyle Lafferty did claim that he is the brains behind it all [Open Goal].
Liverpool hero and Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher claimed he knew straight away Beale was a top coach [Open Goal], and we definitely agree with him.
Gerrard made a smart move getting him to Ibrox, and both would be looking to combine again next term as we attempt to mount a successful title defence.
