Rangers close to completing new signing, could move for John Lundstram

Rangers are close to completing a new transfer for the upcoming 2021/22 season, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

He made the claim on his personal Twitter profile on Sunday afternoon when asked if there was any news on Rangers forthcoming.

Nixon replied: “Signing imminent…”

He was also asked by a Rangers fan for news on ex-Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram, underneath the ‘signing imminent’ tweet.

Nixon replied on Twitter: “Chance.”

Heating up

It’s been a fairly quiet start to the transfer window for the Gers.

Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala are new arrivals at Ibrox but both were confirmed as signings earlier this year after signing pre-contract agreement ahead of the expiration of their respective deals at their former clubs.

As such, there has been a clamour to find out who will be the first ‘real’ transfer of the summer.

Everything has been kept quite ‘hush hush’, but events should start to pick up pace now.

The Copa America and European Championships are likely to have affected our plans somewhat, and player’s futures should become a lot clearer after the conclusion of their involvement in these competitions.

It can also increase or decrease the price on their heads.

But while we would expect some money to be splashed out on new recruits ahead of a fight for the Champions League group stage, it appears that Steven Gerrard may still be eying some bargain deals.

27-year-old Lundstram has been linked with a move to Glasgow for some time now, and he is currently a free agent after letting his deal run out at recently-relegated Sheffield United.

As a proven Premier League performer with 62 top-flight games under his belt he could be a smart pick-up for the Gers this summer, although Nixon’s vague suggestion that there is a “chance” indicated that a deal is not very far down the line there.

In other Rangers news, a significant clause has been tabled in a bid for this Light Blues star that could net the club a future financial windfall.
