Alex McLeish backs experienced replacement for Morelos if Rangers exit sealed
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has backed Rangers to look for an experienced replacement for Alfredo Morelos should he seal his exit.
It was reported by A Bola this week that the Bears were close to an agreement with Porto that would reach nearly £15million.
McLeish believes that experience will be needed, even with the arrival of Fashion Sakala pencilled in.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “It looks as though we could be looking for some experience.
“Sakala is an unknown with great potential, but it’s difficult to settle right in at first, so if we’re losing Morelos, then they are losing real experience.
“These guys will want to test themselves though.”
It looks more and more likely that we will be waving goodbye to Morelos over this window.
The Colombian is currently away at COPA America, and it is unlikely that anything will be sorted until that is over.
With nearly £15million in the bank from this, there is more than enough there to bring in another goalscoring option.
Kemar Roofe arrived for nearly half of that, and if we can bring another one in with similar ability, we will be laughing.
Steven Gerrard will be demanding another forward, with Sakala potentially playing out wide, and space opening up for a new signing.
On one hand, we are gutted to lose Morelos, but on the other, there is clear excitement over a potential new signing.
