Steven Gerrard sets new challenge for Rangers ahead of next season
Steven Gerrard says that the Rangers players need to ‘work even harder’ to achieve their 56th league title next season.
On their website, Rangers released their first pre-season interview video of Gerrard discussing last season’s success and his plans for the coming 10 months
The Gers boss said that the team will never forget the journey behind 55, but they will work doubly as hard to ensure they retain the title next summer.
“We’re going to be the ones hunted rather than hunting, so the mentality needs to change and we need to maintain our standards that we’ve shown over the last 12 months.
“We need to turn the heat up even more. We need to add to it.
“The message to send to our supporters is, ‘Myself and the staff and everyone around this group of players are going to push them even harder than we have done before to make sure we try and add to the success.'”
Exciting times ahead
It is not easy to retain a championship after you’ve waited for almost a decade to win it. The stakes are incredibly high but so are the expectation levels and we’re confident that this side have it in them to reach them.
The squad is going to undergo certain changes as it does every year, but we still have to rope in talented players that help us compensate for the void certain names could leave us with.
The likes of Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos are two names continually linked with an exit and they could walk out of the door at the Ibrox this summer.
Roping in the rind kind of replacements is paramount if we want to get number 56 in the bag, but we’re going to have to be careful of the challenge Celtic under a new manager can pose to us.
That said, we’re confident in our side’s ability and this time next year we’ll be talking about our plans to win number 57.
