Daniel Candeias: I think Alfredo Morelos wants to leave Rangers
Alfredo Morelos is likely to leave Rangers this summer according to his former teammate Daniel Candeias.
The Colombian has been extensively linked with a move to FC Porto, and he could be on his way to Portugal once the two sides agree on a transfer fee.
As things stand, they are close to arriving at a conclusion. The player’s agent Michael Gorman is reportedly in Porto to finalise the terms regarding his eventual transfer. [A Bola]
It’s reported that the striker would cost the Champions League outfit an initial £10.3million fee plus an extra £4.2million in bonuses.
Discussing the player’s future, Candeias told The Scottish Sun, “He loves Rangers and it’s a fantastic club, but after four years I think he’s done his job. He will always be an idol.
“I think he wants to prove to himself he can now compete and shine at another club. Porto is ideal for him as there are so many attractions.
“I’ve been getting involved with him, telling him that I’m waiting to see him at Porto. They have direct access to the Champions League and there are the other Colombians in the squad.”
Time has arrived
Morelos has been a faithful and consistent player for us and there are no complaints about him wanting to leave.
He guided us to our 55th Scottish Premiership title and feels that his work at the club is done and wants to look for a new challenge, which is understandable.
We have to accept that it will be hard to compete against sides that are perennial Champions League competitors and the fact that the Porto side have Colombians within their ranks makes it all the more tempting for him to jump ship.
However, we need to secure a lot more than what’s being offered for his services.
As of current reports, we will be receiving a little below £15million in exchange while we should be looking to drum it over £20million as the extra money will come in handy as we’re building a squad to challenge on multiple fronts for next season.
