Josh McPake to sign new two-year Rangers contract
Rangers are set to hand Josh McPake a new two-year contract at Ibrox this summer.
Glasgow Live have reported that the winger will be rewarded before being sent out on loan to Morecambe.
The young talent was lined with numerous clubs including Motherwell but looks set to return to England yet again.
It is a big vote of confidence.
McPake hasn’t exactly set the world alight while being away from Ibrox in recent years, but obviously that has been enough.
Steven Gerrard will want to see a return for this, and that will be a big year in League One and coming back with the urge to feature at Ibrox.
Given that Glenn Middleton is set to leave on loan again too, this two-year-spell may be packed with loan moves again.
First of many?
We expect many of our younger players the chance to leave Ibrox on loan this year, with McPake and Middleton starting the trend.
Gerrard will be trusting his senior players in all competitions, with the Scottish Premiership now more important than ever.
Instead of qualifiers like this year, the champions will now automatically qualify for the Champions League.
Whereas before Gerrard may have been inclined to hand some minutes to younger players here and there, that chance won’t be delivered this year.
We would rather loan moves happen, so in that case, they can play every single week and look to develop quickly.
McPake putting pen to paper on a new deal will hopefully start a trend, although we hope it is Glen Kamara next.
