Rangers Super Fans react to latest on George Edmundson future at Ibrox

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Rangers Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Ibrox. You can join in the discussion on our Rangers Insider Facebook page.

Rangers fans are in two minds about what should happen with centre-back George Edmundson this summer amid speculation linking him with a move away from Ibrox.

Edmundson, 23, spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby in the English Championship after finding himself frozen out of Steven Gerrard’s squad at Ibrox due to breaking COVID protocols.

The Daily Record now reports that Edmundson is a “top summer target” for Peterborough, who were promoted to England’s second-tier last season.

However, it is understood the Gers have told the English club that Edmundson is not for sale and Gerrard plans to reintegrate him into the first team ahead of next season.

We asked our Rangers Super Fans for their thoughts on Edmundson and whether they agree with Gerrard.

And, as you can see below, there were polarising views.

Here is what they said:

We’re struggling to see how Edmundson would get into the squad, in all honesty.

While Nikola Katic spent last season on the sidelines with a serious injury, he remains someone who, when fully fit, is better and more trusted than Edmundson.

Gerrard also signed Jack Simpson from Bournemouth in January with the Englishman having a couple of solid games towards the end of last season.

Gerrard also has Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun, who’ll be the three centre-backs higher up the pecking order than anyone else.

Where does Edmundson fit in when everyone else is available?

He simply doesn’t.

Even before his COVID ban, Edmundson struggled for game-time with the Gers and has played just 17 times for us in two years.

If a good offer comes in, we wouldn’t mind seeing the back of him as we doubt we’ll see much of him at Ibrox next term anyway.

In other Rangers news, this star player seemingly wants to quit the club.
