Alex McLeish: Glenn Middleton could leave Rangers permanently

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has insisted that Rangers may be waving goodbye to Glenn Middleton over the summer.

The winger spent the last season at St Johnstone but is ready to fight for his spot at Ibrox after winning a couple of trophies.

McLeish believes that Middleton is a superb talent, but needs more finesse in order to breakthrough, something that may be his final chance this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, McLeish said, “I think he does have to get on with his career/

“If he can see early signs that it won’t be with Rangers, then c’est la vie, he has to get himself sorted after a great season and trophies with St Johnstone.

“Amazing season but he has bust onto the scene with superb pace but he needs that finesse with his stuff on the ball.”

Give it everything.

Middleton will need to give it everything he has during pre-season to catch the eye of Steven Gerrard at Auchenhowie.

The winger proved he can be a real asset for any team in the Scottish Premiership, being the main influence behind the second cup success at St Johnstone.

The free-kick at Hampden in the semi-finals was incredible, and he needs to work on bringing that consistency every single week and becoming a real threat.

Ryan Kent is the perfect example, that is the level Middleton has to reach in order to cement his spot in the squad, it certainly could happen.
