View: Rangers fans will love it as Fashion Sakala appears to aim dig at West Ham

Zambian forward Fashion Sakala appears to have aimed a dig at West Ham United after completing Rangers move.

The 24-year-old will be playing at Ibrox next season after joining as a free agent from Belgian outfit Oostende, and he revealed that he rejected teams from the Premier League in order to join the Light Blues [QFM].

Daily Record reported that West Ham United were one of the English top-flight teams keen on Sakala, and Rangers fans would love his latest comments as he appears to aim a dig at the Premier League side.

“Playing for Rangers is better than playing for some Premier League teams,” the Zambian said on YouTube channel DJ Showstar TV.

“Playing for Rangers is better than playing for some teams in France. This is a very big team, one of the most successful in terms of trophies.

“They have a rich history and great fanbase. These big teams put in a lot of money in but I’m not looking for money. The money I’ll be getting for Rangers… my life will be secure.”

Sakala need not mention West Ham directly, but the message has been passed across effectively.

Hammers fans may not agree, but the forward insists opting to join Rangers is a better decision.

While Premier League clubs have money to throw around, the Light Blues’ new forward was more interested in joining a team capable of winning silverware.

Steven Gerrard’s side will be playing in the group stages of the Champions League next season if they navigate through two qualifying rounds, and that is more appealing than playing Europa League football with David Moyes’ side.

English football fans hardly rate us and our league, but Sakala has put them in their place, and rightly so.

Only a handful of Premier League teams can stand toe to toe with Rangers when it comes to our rich history and massive fan base, and Sakala will be keen to impress on the continent with us next season.

Pipping West Ham and co to his signature speaks volumes, and we can only hope more players will see the sense in choosing to play for a side like Rangers ahead of teams outside the top-six in the Premier League.

Sakala may have just established himself as an instant Light Blues hero with his latest comments.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has been stunned by the omission of Light Blues star in the SPFL Team of the Season.
