Alex Rae backs Rangers to replicate Joe Aribo deal this summer
Alex Rae has been thrilled by the behind-the-scenes work of Rangers’ transfer team as they begin to dominate Scotland.
The likes of Joe Aribo and Fashion Sakala have both arrived on free transfers over the past couple of years, with no big money being spent at Ibrox.
Rae has backed his former side to do the same again, and look to replicate the bargain that brought Aribo up north from Charlton.
Speaking via the National, Rae previewed the upcoming window and backed the Bears to utilise their knowledge of the free market yet again.
“That’s how they’re going to have to go,” he said.
“I also think that down in England where you can get guys for development fees; another Joe Aribo. You look at his value, it’s been great.
“I just like the way they go about it; there’s a bit of thought about it. There’s a method about what they’re trying to do and when you’ve got a management team who know how to prepare a team, a playing squad that are absolutely buzzing; it’s an unbelievable achievement.”
If anyone needed reminding of just how excellent Aribo has been over the past season, he proved it by filling in and shining at left-back in the final two games.
Steven Gerrard trusted the Nigerian international to do a job against Livingston and Aberdeen, and he was the perfect candidate, as he bombed up and down the wing all game.
Bringing Aribo to Ibrox on that pre-contract arrangement last year was the perfect signing, and if that can be replicated, we would be in dreamland.
Rae clearly sounds confident that something could happen again.
This is the perfect transfer strategy and could leave Ross Wilson in a place where he doesn’t have to sell players every year, but if he does, at least he’ll be making an immense profit to use later in the window.
