Rangers want to sign Salih Ozcan in the summer - Kicker

Rangers want to sign FC Koln midfielder Salih Ozcan in the upcoming summer window, according to Kicker.

The German outlet has reported that the German youth international’s contract will expire this month, with his next move still unclear.

It is suggested that Steven Gerrard has already opened talks over a potential deal, which could be another free transfer at Ibrox.

There are still some complications that need ironing out.

Rangers may need to cut ties with some of their current midfielders to open up space for Ozcan to come into the squad at Auchenhowie.

It is reported that the Bears won’t make a concrete move for the 23-year-old until their own situation is made clear in midfield.

Ozcan is currently away with Germany in the under-21 European Championships and should feature against the Netherlands on Thursday.

No brainer.

There are clear issues in midfield that need sorting.

Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have had consistent injuries throughout the past year, and it may be hard to continue relying on Steven Davis alongside Glen Kamara.

Nnamdi Ofoborh moves to Ibrox this summer after his pre-contract deal, but another loan deal appears to be very likely after a shocker at Wycombe.

Back in 2017, Ozcan was rated in FourFourTwo’s best 40 teenagers in world football, although he will have been hoping for more progress in the four years that followed.

Gerrard may be the perfect manager to bring out that talent that is clearly in Ozcan, who must be waiting for that chance to show what he can do.

The door is always open at Ibrox.
