Steven Gerrard shock contender for Everton job - The Athletic

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is a shock contender for the Everton job with Carlo Ancelotti, according to The Athletic.

The Italian is set to move to Real Madrid this week to replace Zinedine Zidane, leaving the Toffees scrambling at Goodison Park.

It is now reported that Gerrard could be among the contenders to move back to Merseyside, alongside the likes of Rafa Benitez.

No contact has been made as of yet, but we have heard this before.

Whenever a Premier League job comes up, it appears as though Gerrard is one of those token names that gets thrown into the hat.

The same happened when Wolves cut ties with Nuno Espirito Santo at the end of last season, although nothing has happened with that one.

If any other movement was to happen before or after the European Championships, you can expect Gerrard to be linked with a so-called shock move.

This is surely never going to happen.

Gerrard is destined for the Liverpool job, something that we have all known since the first day he walked through the door at Ibrox.

Why would the gaffer potentially throw away his dream role just to move to the Premier League and manage their nearest and fiercest rivals.

This is like someone such as Barry Ferguson growing up the managerial ladder and taking charge of Celtic, it just wouldn’t happen.

The main priority is starting a period of dominance at Ibrox, winning more silverware and establishing the Bears in the Champions League, you can ignore this along with the others.
