BBC Journalist: Nathan Patterson & Jon McLaughlin test negative for COVID-19

Rangers duo Nathan Patterson and Jon McLaughlin have tested negative for COVID-19 in the Scotland training camp.

Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck has tested positive this week and will miss the first of their EUROs preparation friendlies against the Netherlands.

Patterson and McLaughlin have been away with the squad in Spain as training started ahead of the major tournament this month.

BBC Journalist Chris McLaughlin has shared an update on his personal Twitter account, including if there were any more positive findings in the camp.

“Scottish FA say no close contacts identified after John Fleck tested positive for COVID-19 in Spain training camp,” he wrote.

“He’ll now self isolate and won’t travel to Portugal for tomorrow’s friendly against the Netherlands. Rest of the squad have tested negative.”

Brilliant news.

Alfredo Morelos hasn’t been as lucky on international duty this month and has tested positive for the virus while away ahead of the COPA America with Colombia.

Patterson and McLaughlin will hopefully get some minutes under their belts this week, with tough challenges against the likes of Holland coming up ahead of the EUROs.

Steve Clarke will want to see all of his squad ahead of that first game against the Czech Republic, and who knows? We could see one of our own running out at Hampden.

It is likely to be Patterson, with his attacking output something that could be a real weapon in our five-at-the-back formation over the likes of Stephen O’Donnell.

Time will tell, but at least this chance hasn’t been stripped from them due to COVID-19.
